Mrs. Palmer's "Flowers for Algernon" Essay

"Tomorrow, I will discuss with Dr. Strauss the manner in which I can work in this area... There is so much that might be done with this technique. If I could be made into a genius, what about thousands of others like myself? What fantastic levels might be achieved by using this technique on normal people? On geniuses? ---Charlie Gordon, "Flowers for Algernon"

1. For this assignment, students are required to find an article that presents a "current genetics event." The "Genectics Event" article may be a newspaper, magazine, journal article or Internet document. It must come from a valid source. We will discuss this during our visit to the Information Center. Mrs. Hatcher, the school librarian, will provide instruction on the use of the VRC for this assignment.
2. Write an essay that presents your opinion on both the experiment in the short story as well as one "genetic event" that you have discovered is taking place in the world today.
